Although strictly speaking this is not a frog or a pool story, I did want to share since I was cleaning the leaves around the pool after a storm this weekend. I had to stop and come back on Sunday due to the rain. As I was finishing up I thought I noticed what might be a piece of rubber (or a small snake). The yard was a little unkempt when we moved inso a piece of rubber was not out of the realm of possibility. I nudged the little coil of grey with my rake and it didn't move. I already knew I would need assistance moving a table to finish my cleaning so I went to ask my boyfriend for assistance to remove what I was certain was a dead snake.

As I waited for him to come downstairs, I moved to a different section of the yard to work. By the time he came down stairs, the dead snake was gone!!!surprise
We both looked around the immediate area and soon found the little guy slowly creeping away. Poor guy, he must have been so scared!! After a quick chat about the best course of action, Joseph went inside and came back out with a long, thick leather glove. He picked up the little danger noodle as he tried to scurry away. He was only about a foot long with a reddish orange belly and a slightly striped grey back. He was gently deposited across the back fence so he would be safe from the neighbor dogs and the weed eater.

We think he was a red bellied water snake but we're not certain. He was pretty cute for a snake. Remind me to tell you some time about the less cute snake we found shortly after moving in.
